Distillerie Fils du Roy is planning to open New Brunswick’s first malting plant, the CBC reported. Malting on-site will make the distillery self-sufficient and 100% local; in time, it might consider malting for others customers, co-owner Sébastien Roy said. The new malting plant was expected to be operating by this month. In B.C., the Victoria News also reported that Campbell River-area Shelter Point Distillery hopes to be malting on site “within a year or two.”

Currently, Phillips Brewing (and its Fermentorium distilling arm), which opened a Malt Works at its Victoria brewery in 2015, is the only malting option on Vancouver Island.
