U.S. spirits industry site SevenFiftyDaily named “distilleries enhancing their visitor experiences” as one of the top five spirits trends to watch in 2023.

The 13th annual Canadian Whisky Awards (which include an Artisan Distillery of the Year award) will be handed out on January during the Victoria Whisky Festival.

The UBC Small Business Accelerator Program published a summary of the B.C. and Canadian small distillery industry landscape, including industry trends and challenges for the future.

Matt Hamill of Alberta's Red Shed Malting (who was one of the speakers at the ADC Conference & Trade Show in 2022) published a panel-discussion article on the role of roasted malts in modern whisky production, featuring a number of distillers and whisky experts.

CTV News in Regina reported that Saskatchewan government liquor stores, which are all slated to close by March 2023, were discounting products in recent months, putting local distilleries and other alcohol producers at a pricing disadvantage over the important holiday season.

Ottawa Business Journal wrote about the upcoming Artist in Residence distillery opening in Hawkesbury, Quebec, the second AiR location (the first is in Gatineau). Owner Pierre Mantha announced plans to open eight additional distilleries in the U.S., Canada, Columbia and Mexico.

Niagara College's distilling program recently released its first student-made whisky, a single malt called Spirits 101.

Mark Anthony Spirits, which recently acquired Dillon's Small Batch Spirits, purchased a 70-acre vineyard in Niagara, and Niagara Now speculates it might host a new distillery location. In a statement, Geoff Dillon said, “Our commitment to growing our business in the region has led us to the recent purchase of land in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We are thrilled to be deepening our roots in this community and excited to bring something new to town.” 

In a Saltwire interview, distillery co-founder Peter Wilkins said the Newfoundland Distillery Company will expand distribution across Canada in 2023.

Huddle reported that the Sussex Craft Distillery planned to move to a waterfront location in a former provincial government building this spring.
