Stanford Business magazine wrote about marketing research into authenticity in distilling, finding that "sourced" whiskey brands that don't do their own production don't resonate with consumers.

Shelter Point Distillery in Campbell River, B.C., became the first Canadian distillery to ever have a bottle released by the prestigious Scotch Malt Whisky Society in Scotland, which has 35,000 members globally. The SMWS numbers its bottles (instead of naming distilleries), though Shelter Point was recognized as distillery 152 in the Society's own Unfiltered magazine.

Yaletown Distilling Co. in Vancouver has been acquired by RK Concepts, a Vancouver hospitality group.

City News in Calgary reported an explosion resulting in a fire at Alberta Distillers in mid-January.  

The St. Albert Gazette wrote about family-owned Dark Sky Distillery in the province's Sturgeon County. It produces gins, vodka and the Nova brand of canned cocktails.

Tumbler & Rock bottled craft cocktails by The Fort Distillery in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta (such as the Old Fashioned, Martini and a Margarita) have been selected for offer on the bar carts of some long-haul Porter Airlines flights, starting February 1, Global News reported.

An Ontario beverage-alcohol maker, fermented honey beverage brand Wilda, is pushing for ingredients labels, and carbon footprint information, to be included on alcohol packaging, Global TV reported.

Saltwire reported that Canada's Speaker in the House of Commons has his own Speaker's Canadian Whisky for the first time in history (echoing the Scottish tradition of a Speaker's Scotch): a Canadian rye from Rig Hand Distillery in Nisku, Alberta. The report says the whisky could be a gift given by MPs, who helped choose it at a tasting event. 

The Coast named its Best of Halifax for 2022, including distilleries winning Gold, Silver and Bronze: Coldstream Clear Distillery, Nova Scotia Spirit Co. and Compass Distillers.
