Paverson, a U.S. indie board-games company, has created Distilled, a strategy game structured around the narrative of inheriting a distillery from a long-lost relative and making it a successful business.

Mashed recently rounded up the Best Canadian Whiskies to drink in 2023, including artisan bottlings from The Liberty, Shelter Point and Last Mountain Distilleries, plus Okanagan Spirits’ Laird of Fintry bottling.

The Spring 2023 issue of Elle Gourmet contains an article called “By the Bottle,” about Canada’s women distillers and winemakers.

Victoria Buzz reported that Sheringham Distillery (originally located in Shirley, then in Sooke, B.C.) was moving to 4383 West Shore Parkway in Langford, B.C. A launch party was held at the new location in late April.

Macaloney’s Island Distillery in Victoria recently won three World Whisky Awards, including World’s Best Pot Still Whisky 2023 award for its Kildara Signature Expression.

Distillery “mascot” Seymour the Elk (a mounted taxidermy head) was stolen from Rig Hand Distillery this spring, when the distillery changed locations. The distillery posted a $1,000 reward for the return of Seymour, which it uses in a lighthearted ceremony, based around Newfoundland’s famous Screech-in ritual.

Avenue Calgary reported that Burwood Distillery collaborated with local brewer Vacay Brew Co. to open Veranda, a gastropub in The Stables at Currie Barracks in Calgary, with the production facilities of both brands at the same location.

Former NHL players Chris Pronger and his brother, Sean, are partnering with Niagara Falls Craft Distillers to release JRNY (pronounced “Journey”) whisky this month in Ontario and Manitoba, bottled at 44 per cent alcohol by volume; 44 was Pronger’s jersey number. Made from Saskatchewan grain, it’s aged in new American oak for three years.

The LCBO’s Food & Drink customer magazine wrote about the Southern Ontario Craft Gin Trail, which features six distilleries with distinctive gin bottlings.
